Councillors campaign for youth faciliies

Local councillors are campaigning to improve youth facilities in Grove and Wantage and have been listening to the views of young people about what they would like to see in the area. Vale District Councillor, Jenny Hannaby who has executive responsibility for Leisure and Sports Development was keen to hear about aspirations for a brand new all-purpose built youth centre which will meet the needs of young people both now and in the future. Cllrs Jenny Hannaby and Zoe Patrick both visited the Sweatbox in Grove and Wantage last week to talk to the Youth Development Officer and the youngsters who were attending.

Councillor Hannaby said "I was interested to meet with young people in Grove and Wantage to talk to them about their plans for the future. We need to push their campaign right into the limelight to ensure they get the support they need."

County Councillor for Grove and Wantage, Zoé Patrick said "I was disappointed that the County Council had not provided any money for youth facilities in Grove in their budget. We had allocated 500K to get the project started. We know that once King Alfred's moves onto two sites as part of their 3 to 2 project, the young people will need to have somewhere to go."

Councillors are hoping that their campaign will bring resources into the project and ensure this is given a high profile for the area.
