At a by-election in Wantage Segsbury ward on Thursday 9th October, Liberal Democrat candidate Peter Kent was elected with a convincing majority, taking a seat from the Conservatives. Peter has been a member of Wantage Town Council before, including serving as Town Mayor. His period in charge of the council's finances was particularly effective, reducing the town's council tax precept to one of the lowest in Oxfordshire. He has been an active member of the successful campaign to save Wantage's community hospital.
The votes cast were as follows:
Liberal Democrat (Peter Kent) 328
Conservative Party candidate 201
Labour party candidate 130
