Labour are not green

Labour have had a real opportunity to take real action to tackle climate change in the last 11 years. But they have abysmally failed to deliver on their promises. Carbon emissions are up, there is more traffic on our roads and our trains have been neglected. As with so many other major issues, Labour's tough talk has not been backed up with effective action.

Gordon Brown failed as Chancellor to tackle environmental issues. Now as Prime Minister he is pressing ahead with plans that will do more damage to our precious environment. Brown continues to oppose green taxes and wants to build 108,000 houses on floodplains - despite the flooding problems across Britain. Labour can't be trusted on the environment.

Only Nick Clegg's Liberal Democrats are putting forward plans to tackle climate change and safeguard the environment. The Lib Dem plans include major improvements to the rail network including a high speed rail line, cuts in income tax and switch to green taxes on pollution and a commitment to 100% carbon-free non nuclear energy by 2050.
