Wantage and Didcot spokesman Alan Armitage has signed the Royal British Legion's manifesto
Liberal Democrat parliamentary spokesman for Wantage and Didcot, Alan Armitage, has signed up to the Royal British Legion's manifesto for the general election. Mr Armitage will be attending the Remembrance Day ceremony in Didcot on Sunday, where newly-elected Didcot councillor David Rouane will lay a wreath on behalf of Didcot Liberal Democrats.
Mr Armitage said: "It's crucial that we honour the commitment and sacrifice of our armed forces. Too often in recent years they have been let down by government dithering and cost-cutting. We must not send our brave young men and women into conflict zones without adequate equipment and back-up. The average wage for a private in the army is below that of other public service workers - something which the Lib Dems would make a priority to fix. Sending our troops into Iraq was a massive blunder and there are still many lessons to be learnt about how and why the decision to invade was made. We must take better care of those who are prepared to put their lives on the line for our country."
